Voting Board terminology
Understand the core concepts of Voting Boards to collect feedback, manage ideas, and communicate updates to your users.
Boards, ideas, votes & comments
Voting Boards contain ideas that users can vote on and comment. Each idea tracks user engagement through votes and discussion.
For example:
- Board: Product Requests
- Idea: Dark mode for timeline
- Comment: Cool! That's what needed!

Boards
A board's access can be set to public or private. Public boards are visible to anyone on the web, while private boards limit access to specific groups.
Public boards typically gather user feedback. Private boards collect internal team feedback or can be tailored for specific audiences like customers or select team members.

Ideas
- Anyone with board access can create a new post, whether they're a regular user or a Ducalis account user. Here's what the idea creation screen looks like for users who have access to Ducalis account at https://hi.ducalis.io/
You can also create an idea from your Backlog Issue:
- Every idea can be assigned an author. This creates accountability for addressing specific feedback. Learn more.
- As an idea's status is updated, users who voted on the idea receive automatic email notifications. This keeps users informed about what matters most to them. Learn more.
Votes
Ducalis lets users show support for an idea with one click. Each user gets one vote per idea, and vote totals appear in Ducalis, allowing you to easily sort and filter your most popular or relevant ideas.
-
Casting a vote automatically enrolls that user for updates related to that idea.
-
Votes can be added by your team on a user's behalf.
- Users can rescind a vote by clicking the downvote button.
- If a vote was added on a user's behalf, an admin can also rescind it from the All Voters list.
Comments
Comments can be added to an idea by anyone with access to that board.
- As an account user, adding a top-level comment notifies all voters.
- When you reply directly to another comment, only that commenter is notified.
- Individual @mentions are also supported for when you need to better understand someone's use case or expectations.
Labels
Each board can have its own unique labels. They are visible to all external users and help organize ideas. Ideas can have multiple labels.
