Dependencies
Link tasks to show relationships and enforce scheduling constraints. The Gantt chart supports two types of connections.
Link types
| Type | Appearance | Scheduling constraint |
|---|---|---|
| Visual Link | Dotted line | None — informational only |
| Finish to Start | Solid red arrow | Successor starts after predecessor finishes (plus workday offset) |
Visual Link shows a relationship without enforcing dates. Finish to Start ensures the dependent task cannot start until the predecessor is complete — if you extend the predecessor, the successor shifts automatically.
Create a link
-
Click or right-click the predecessor task bar.
-
Select Create Visual Link from the context menu.
-
Click the successor task bar. A dotted visual link appears between the two tasks.
Change link type
After creating a link, you can switch between Visual Link and Finish to Start:
-
Click the link line between two tasks.
-
Under Dependency behavior, choose:
- Visual Link — only visual connection, no scheduling constraint.
- Finish to Start — successor starts after predecessor finishes, plus workday offset. The successor task bar moves automatically.
Remove dependencies
- Remove a single connection — click the link line between two tasks and select Delete Connection.
- Remove all dependencies from a task — right-click the task bar and select Remove All Dependencies.
- Redirect a dependency — click the link line and select Unlink & Relink, then click the new target task.
