Adding and Scheduling Tasks

The Gantt chart starts empty. You build your plan by dragging tasks from the Unscheduled Tasks panel onto the timeline, then arranging them by dates and duration.

Unscheduled Tasks panel

The Unscheduled Tasks panel sits at the bottom of the Gantt chart. It lists all tasks from the current Board (or Report) that have not been added to this Gantt chart. A count badge shows the total number of available tasks.

The panel supports the same filters, sorting, and saved filter presets as the Backlog, so you can narrow the list before adding tasks — for example, show only tasks from the current sprint or assigned to a specific person.

Add a task to the timeline

  1. Expand the Unscheduled Tasks panel at the bottom.

  2. Find the task you want to schedule. Use filters or search to narrow the list.

  3. Drag the task from the panel onto the timeline. The task appears as a bar with a default start date and duration.

Create a task on the fly

You can create a new task directly from the Unscheduled Tasks panel without leaving the Gantt chart. Click + Add Issue in the panel, enter the task name, and drag it onto the timeline.

This is useful when you need to add a task that does not exist in your Backlog yet — for example, an ad-hoc request that came up during planning. You can later push this task to your external task tracker.

Move a task on the timeline

Drag a task bar horizontally to change both its start and end dates while keeping the same duration.

Resize a task

Hover over the left or right edge of a task bar until the resize cursor appears. Drag to change the start date (left edge) or end date (right edge). The task duration adjusts accordingly.

Set dates from the context menu

  1. Click or right-click a task bar on the timeline.

  2. Use the Start Date and End Date fields to pick exact dates from the date picker.

Set a task color

Use colors to visually categorize tasks — for example, by priority level, team, or work type.

  1. Click or right-click a task bar.

  2. Choose a color from the Color palette in the context menu. Click the X to remove the color.

Remove a task from the timeline

  1. Click or right-click the task bar.

  2. Select Unschedule Task. The task returns to the Unscheduled Tasks panel.

To remove multiple tasks, hold Ctrl (or Cmd on Mac), click several task bars, and press Delete.

informação

Tasks that disappear from the Backlog (e.g., marked Done in your task tracker) stay on the Gantt chart until you manually unschedule them. Learn more in Task tracker sync.

Sorting tasks on the Gantt chart

Tasks on the Gantt chart can be ordered in two ways:

  • Column sort — click any column header and select Sort Ascending or Sort Descending. Tasks reorder by that column value (e.g., by Score, by Assignee name).
  • Manual reorder — drag tasks in the table panel to arrange them in any order. A confirmation dialog appears because manual reorder replaces any active column sort.

This means the task with the highest priority score does not have to be first on the Gantt chart — you can place it wherever it makes sense for your plan.
